T H E H O S T

A parasitic race of aliens has invaded Earth, seeing humans as unfit to take care of our planet. In our language, they called themselves Souls. When these aliens are implanted into a human, they wipe out the consciousness of that person, giving the Soul their human memories and all that they’ve learned throughout life. A small number of humans managed to escape the invasion hiding out around the world from the Souls looking for them. A girl from one of these pockets of Rebel forces named Melanie was captured and implanted with a Soul by the name of Wanderer. This Soul was meant to extract information from Mel’s body about the pocket of rebel humans that she had been staying with, but the more Wanderer tries to get from Melanie, the more Melanie’s consciousness fights back. Eventually, the two set out to try and find the rest of Melanie’s friends… and find out at the same time that Melanie isn’t the only one that is able to fight a Soul’s presence.

> W O R L D F A C T I O N S *

REBEL HUMANS – These humans have found shelter with one another, hiding out and keeping themselves alive for a time when they will be able to retaliate against the Souls.

WANDERING HUMANS – These humans either haven’t found these rebel groups, or choose that they are safest wandering the world by themselves. They continue to be on the run from the Seekers, and live primarily alone but never stay in one place for too long.

REBEL SOULS – These Souls are those that have connected in some way with the humans. Many just feel sympathy for their human hosts and what they as Souls have done to take over the planet. A very few others however are driven by hosts that didn’t fade away like they should have.

SOULS – These are the common Souls who have merged flawlessly into society. Their hosts faded when they were implanted, and they’ve gone about their everyday lives taking over their chosen Callings.

HEALERS – A special type of Soul, their primary purpose is to be the main caretakers of the Souls race. They are the ones best adept to make advances in medical technology and distribute it to the other Souls.

SEEKERS – Seekers are more or less the law enforcement of the Soul world. Their primary job is ensuing that the lives of the Souls remain untouched and that no harm comes to their race. More often than not, Seekers are the ones who bring in and find the rest of the Rebels to have them implanted with Souls, as well as hunt down the Souls who’ve jumped sides.

*note that the Soul’s human names are in parenthesis. Depending on what’s there, that’s usually what they go by. If you’d like to make something up for the missing parts (cuz there are a lot) feel free! Also Mel is on the list twice for the fact that at the end of the book her and Wanderer are separated so yeah…*
